Seamless steel pipe is a circular pipe having a hollow section and no seams around it. The seamless steel pipe is made of carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel ingot or solid tube blank, and then is made by hot rolling, cold rolling or cold drawing. Seamless pipes are considered superior to welded pipes as they are built using monolithic steel billets, with intrinsic mechanical strength, without seam welds.

The production processes of seamless steel pipes mainly include hot rolling and cold drawing (rolling).

1. Hot-Rolled Seamless Steel Pipes
Hot-rolled seamless steel pipes are made from round pipe billets, which are heated and pierced through a piercing machine, followed by multiple passes of rolling, cooling, and straightening, ultimately forming seamless steel pipes. The main advantages of hot rolling are the ability to produce large diameter and thick-walled seamless steel pipes, high production efficiency, and relatively low costs.

2. Cold-Drawn (Rolled) Seamless Steel Pipes
Cold-drawn (rolled) seamless steel pipes are formed through multiple cold drawing (rolling) processes at room temperature. The cold drawing (rolling) process can produce seamless steel pipes with high dimensional accuracy and smooth surface finish, and their mechanical properties and microstructure are more uniform. However, the production efficiency of cold-drawn (rolled) seamless steel pipes is lower, and the production costs are higher, making them suitable for applications requiring high precision and surface finish.
